The Oak Ridge Boys

Last night I went to see the Oak Ridge Boys Christmas program at the local events center. What a special night it was, the Oak’s were awesome. They started their show singing a number of their all time favorites: “Elvira”, “You’re The One”, “Y’all Come Back Saloon”, and many more. It was great to hear these songs again and they sounded just like the last time I had seen them perform.

After a break they focused on all Christmas songs. They did an opening number of songs such as “I’ll Be Home For Christmas” and “Jingle Bells”. Then they introduced a selection of about eight songs that focused on, “The reason for Christmas, Jesus Christ, God’s Son, who came to save us”. When they made that statement the whole events center erupted in applause. They then sang songs that really focused on the birth of Jesus. It was special because the songs they performed we all songs I had never heard before; one that was really moving was “Bethlehem”. At one break between songs one of the Oak’s read part of the Christmas story from the Bible. At the close of this set of songs they had everyone in the audience sing “Silent Night”. It was moving to hear the entire events center crowd join in singing this song. What a great way to start the Christmas season, with the focus on the real meaning of Christmas, not just a holiday.

Wow!! I always knew there was something about those "Oaks" that I liked!! It gives me chills to think of the audience errupting in applause at the Christmas songs and to join together singing "Silent Night"!! Wish I had been there. And how often do you see the Bible whipped out to be read aloud in a forum like that!!

Sounds like a great concert!! I have many memories of listening to the Oak Ridge Boys. Dad used to play one of their tapes while we traveled around the US in the van. Matt, Scott and dad used to sing Elvira, Fancy Free and American Made all of the time. That had to be awesome hearing the Christmas songs!!
