Tim Tebow to Appear in Pro-Family Super Bowl Ad

This should be a good add for all people, especially young people, to see during the Super Bowl game.

Tebow, 22, will be appearing with his mother in a 30-second commercial that will be watched by some 90 million people next month.

The commercial is produced by Focus on the Family.

Though Focus on the Family gave little detail about the commercial, the presence of both Tebow and his mother in it, as well as the organization’s well-known pro-life stance, suggests that the story will include how Tebow’s mother refused to have an abortion while she was pregnant with him despite having suffered from a life-threatening infection. It is also well known that Pam Tebow, who was serving as a missionary when Tim was born in the Philippines, had homeschooled all of her children and worked to instill the family’s Christian beliefs along the way.

NYC's 'skinniest' house sells for $2.1M

Now here is one you don't see everyday. I thought this would be worth a chuckle, at least for me, as my real estate sensibilities were rattled.

The red, 9 1/2 foot wide, 42 foot long brick building in Greenwich Village was built in 1873 on land used as an alley between homes. The town house was listed for sale last August at $2.7 million. The two bedroom, two bath home last sold in 2000 for $1.6 million.

The newly-sold building was listed on real estate Web sites Wednesday as a rental available for $10,000 a month. An e-mail seeking comment from the listed rental agent Wednesday was not immediately returned.

Woman Who Hid Anne Frank, Rescued Her Diary Dies at Age 100

I have read Anne Frank's diary several times and remember seeing a movie relating to the events leading up to the family going into hiding and the post war return of Anne's father. The movie showed just how Miep Gies, her husband, and a few others managed to hid the Frank family and another family for two years from the Nazi's.

Gies was the last of the few non-Jews who supplied food, books and good cheer to the secret annex behind the canal warehouse where Anne, her parents, sister and four other Jews hid for 25 months during World War II.

After the apartment was raided by the German police, Gies gathered up Anne's scattered notebooks and papers and locked them in a drawer for her return after the war. The diary, which Anne Frank was given on her 13th birthday, chronicles her life in hiding from June 12, 1942 until August 1, 1944.

Gies refused to read the papers, saying even a teenager's privacy was sacred. Later, she said if she had read them she would have had to burn them because they incriminated the "helpers."

Anne Frank died of typhus at age 15 in the Bergen-Belsen concentration camp in March 1945, just two weeks before the camp was liberated. Gies gave the diary to Anne's father Otto, the only survivor, who published it in 1947.

Born in Tupelo, Miss., Elvis was an immediate sensation in the mid-1950s with his blend of blues rock and rockabilly. Because of his stage gyrations, television producers initially refused to show him below the waist on screen. Critics called him "Elvis the Pelvis," but his fans called him the "King of Rock 'n' Roll." The Elvis empire grew with live performances, records, films and a grand estate in Memphis,Tenn., known worldwide as Graceland. Elvis died at Graceland on Aug. 16, 1977. He was 42.

Navy stand-out linebacker serves Christ

Here is an example of an athlete who lives out his faith in Christ.

During Ross's junior year at Temple High School in Temple, Texas, he noticed a table of kids who sat by themselves at lunch. In the often harsh world of high school pecking orders, this group of misfits had fallen through the cracks.

Crossing racial and social lines, Ross decided to eat lunch with them. At first, it took the group by surprise. Ross was a popular two-sport athlete and a member of the National Honor Society. What was he doing at their table? Ross's friends wondered the same thing. It didn't matter. He ate at their table every day for an entire semester.

Navy's defensive team captain, Pospisil is nearing the end of a fantastic football career. During his three years playing for Navy, he has led the team in tackles the last two seasons and helped the Midshipmen (9-4) extend their school-record stretch of Commander-in-Chief Trophies (awarded to the team with the best record among the service academies) and bowl berths to seven apiece. He also has enjoyed two wins over Notre Dame, both in South Bend. On New Year's Eve, Navy faces Missouri (8-4) in the Texas Bowl in Houston.

But Pospisil's legacy at the venerable service academy in Annapolis, Md., goes far beyond wins, losses and defensive statistics. He is a servant-leader poster child not only for the Brigade of Midshipmen but also for his deep Christian faith.

"He leads by example," said Navy head coach Ken Niumatalolo. "Not that he's a quiet leader, but he's not yelling at players. He's leading by encouragement. It's hard not to do it because he's the first guy doing it. Guys look at one of best players on the team and the team captain and see that he works harder than anyone on the team, so it's hard not to follow. He's a man of great spiritual strength. Off the field, he does charitable work without any coercion. It's the whole person."

I think that my grandson is tall at 6'-1", and 13 years old; but this girl from Jamaica dwarfs him.

Sixteen-year-old national netball starlet, Marvadene Anderson, who presently stands at six feet, 11 inches tall, has been declared the world's tallest teenaged girl in a December 20 article published in the New York Post.

Anderson's towering figure, which stands well above the likes of Bolt (6' 5"), Michael Jordan (6' 6"), Peter Crouch (6' 7") and LeBron James (6' 8"), has obviously caught the eyes of everyone, just like she did back in her homeland when playing for the young Sunshine Girls.

The young Jamaican, who plays centre, uses her 210lbs size to intimidate her opponents, block shots and make easy lay-ups, reports the NY Post.

Wow, I was surprised at this event. Jordanians gather to celebrate the lighting of the 26-meter tree, alleged to be the largest Christmas tree in the Middle East, in the Christian town of Fuheis, out side of Amman, Jordan, Thursday, Dec. 17, 2009.

Jordanians are celebrating something different this holiday season — the lighting of what is said to be the tallest Christmas tree in the Middle East.

Members of Jordan's royal family on Thursday lit the 85-foot-tall (26-meter-tall) artificial pine tree adorned with red and gold ornaments in the predominantly Christian city of Fuhais in western Jordan.

Hundreds of Jordanians, including Muslim women in head scarves, gathered under the tree to sing Christmas carols. They watched teenagers in Santa Claus costumes dancing.

Christians make up 4 percent of Jordan's 6 million people.

SI names Derek Jeter 2009 Sportsman of the Year

In what has already been a banner year for Derek Jeter, the New York Yankees shortstop can add another honor: Sports Illustrated's Sportsman of the Year award. Jeter was chosen as the magazine's 56th honoree (the Dec. 7 issue will hit newsstands on Wednesday) and becomes the first Yankee to be named SI's Sportsman.

Jeter's selection caps another outstanding season for the 35-year-old team captain and future Hall of Famer. In 2009 he batted .334 while leading the Yankees to their fifth World Series title in his 14 full seasons, their first since 2000 and their record 27th in franchise history. On Sept. 11 he passed Lou Gehrig's franchise mark for base hits, which now stands at 2,747. In 2009 Jeter led the American League by reaching base 289 times, finished second in the league in hits (212), third in batting average and on-base percentage (.406), fourth in runs (107) and eighth in stolen bases (30). He was named an All-Star for the 10th time, including the sixth time as a starter, while winning his fourth AL Silver Slugger as the best hitting shortstop in the league and his fourth Gold Glove as the league's top defensive shortstop.

Omaha Christian practices on a plot of grass next to Emmanuel Fellowship Church at 84th and Crown Point Avenue, with no line markers or goal posts. “You don't know the exact width of a field,'' coach Tim Hamilton said. “Sometimes we don't set up exactly the way I'd like, but I don't blame the kids too much for that.''

Omaha Christian holds classes in a former office building off 103rd and Fort Streets, a facility the school recently purchased and renovated after renting three other buildings during the past 16 years.

But right now it's just classrooms. No locker room, no gymnasium, no football field and a minuscule weight room.

So what if their cars are traveling locker rooms? Or if their practice field lacks line markers, goal posts and lights? Or if all of their games are away?

Politically Correct Change???

How far will this country go to be politically correct? Not really good news, but certainly something everyone needs to be aware that is happening.

The Lone Star Report revealed that a fifth grader in Ector County Independent School District in Odessa, Texas, was told to memorize the Declaration of Independence as printed in "History Alive! America's Past," published by the Teachers' Curriculum Institute, or TCI.

But there was one hitch – an essential word had been altered.

State Board of Education member Terri Leo blasted the publisher for altering the Declaration of Independence.

"Instead of saying 'all men are created equal,' it says 'all people are created equal,'" Leo noted. "Are we going to tell kids what the actual document says or are we going to change words in those documents to be politically correct ... How can you change a historical document and not present it to students as written?"

What a strange journey it has been for Nate Robertson to arrive at today, when he will pitch against the Twins in the first really pivotal game of the Tigers' September playoff race.

Robertson has started big games in past seasons. When this season began, he was in the bullpen after he lost his bid in spring training to win back his rotation job. In June, he went on the disabled list and had elbow surgery.

"I try to trust that the surgery and the comeback is all for a reason," Robertson said. "There's a lot in the Bible about perseverance and perspective. If I can cling to those things, it keeps me grounded and humble.

"I have several Bible verses I like. One that comes to mind is Proverbs 3:5-6: 'Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make your paths straight.'

"That's kind of your perspective of life, through the ups and downs," Robertson said. "There are going to be more ups and there are going to be more downs. You've just got to keep pressing forward."

Gavin Mcleod Stars in New Faith-Based Film

As Murray Slaughter, he wrote for airhead anchor Ted Baxter on "The Mary Tyler Moore Show" for seven years. As Merrill Stubing, he captained the "Love Boat" for nearly a decade after that. Today, iconic TV actor Gavin Macleod says "I know who my admiral is," referring to his faith in God.

Macleod, 78, is a born again Christian now piloting a career in the Christian film industry, and starring in the movie "The Secrets of Jonathan Perry," which opens this weekend.

The film is about three 12-year old boys who are best buddies in the summer of 1970. One of them mows the lawn for an elderly widower named Jonathan Sperry. The two develop a unique friendship as Sperry employs Biblical teachings to help the boy and his friends deal with a bully, a secret crush, and other life challenges.

"The film is about forgiveness," Macleod says. "Forgiveness is one of the greatest tools God has given us."

Chad Lindsey recently entered this rare breed. Mr. Lindsey was waiting for the C train at the Penn Station stop when he saw a man walk too quickly toward the edge of the platform. The man fell, hit his head on the rail, and passed out. Lindsey quickly came to the rescue. He jumped down and tried to wake the man up, to no avail. He finally grabbed the man from behind and hoisted him up onto the platform. The train came some seconds later. Ironically, Mr. Lindsey is an actor in an Off Broadway show called “Kasper Hauser,” a role which requires Lindsey to constantly lift a character that is unable to walk. After the police arrived, Mr. Lindsey stepped onto another train and went on his way. All in a day’s work.

Defense of Marriage Act

This is not good or encouraging news for people of morals and values.

A conservative black pastor in Washington, DC, is expressing outrage over President Obama's decision to file a legal brief in support of repealing the federal Defense of Marriage Act (DOMA).

A new brief filed yesterday by Justice Department lawyer Scott Simpson declares that the Obama administration "does not support DOMA as a matter of policy," and "believes that the Act is discriminatory and should be repealed by Congress." In a written statement, President Obama states that he has "long held that DOMA prevents LGBT [lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgendered] couples from being granted equal rights and benefits." In fact, as a U.S. senator representing Illinois, Obama stated his support for "the complete repeal of the Defense of Marriage Act."

Bishop Harry Jackson, Jr., chairman of the High Impact Leadership Coalition, says the Obama administration's brief is "an assault on biblical, God-ordained marriage."

"Evidently the president signaled to us during the Stonewall celebration, when he had all of the gay activists into the White House and made presentations of what he would do for them, that he values this constituency and he is responding to their urging to accelerate the process of redefining marriage," he points out. "So, I think it is very hypocritical on his part. I'm very outraged."

The couple had set the timer on their camera while posing at a lakeside in a national park in Canada.

Just as they were about to be captured on camera the cheeky squirrel popped up in the foreground and stole the show.

Mrs Brandts said: "We had our camera set up on some rocks and were getting ready to take the picture when this curious little ground squirrel appeared, became intrigued with the sound of the focusing camera and popped right into our shot."

"All of the classic television shows represented on these stamps represent the collective memory of a generation well deserving of entertainment," said James C. SUNSET HILLS, Mo. -- The manager of St. Louis-area Burger King kicked a baby out of his restaurant, apparently because he found the baby's little feet a risk to public health.

Jennifer Frederich stopped to eat at the Burger King when she found out she would not be having it her way. The manager told Frederich she would have to get her food to go because her 6-month-old daughter, Kaylin, wasn’t wearing any shoes.

Frederich says the manager told her it was against the health code.

Great Crevase Edgar Mueller. Hard work: Together with up to five assistants, Mueller painted all day long from sunrise to sunset.

The picture appeared on the East Pier in Dun Laoghaire , Ireland , as part of the town's Festival of World Cultures.

He spent five days, working 12 hours a day, to create the 250 square metre image of the crevasse, which, viewed from the correct angle, appears to be 3D. He then persuaded passers-by to complete the illusion by pretending the gaping hole was real.

'I wanted to play with positives and negatives to encourage people to thnk twice about everything they see,' he said. 'It was a very scary scene, but when people saw it they had great fun playing on it and pretending to fall into the earth. 'I like to think that later, when they returned home, they might reflect more on what a frightening scenario it was and say, "Wow, that was actually pretty scary."

Rachel Veitch, 90, of Orlando Florida, is still driving her 1964 Mercury Comet Caliente every day, which recently notched its 559,000th mile. She credits her meticulous care and near-obsessive dedication to her car -- she calls it "Chariot" -- as the reason it's still turning over every morning, year after year after year.

The retired nurse maintains an exhaustive collection of maintenance records and changes the oil every 3,000 miles. She and her faithful ride have gone through eight mufflers, at least 17 batteries and three sets of shocks.

The prelude to the "response" below, from Colonel Bud Day, Medal of Honor recipient - prisoner of war survivor - reads "I didn't expect to be reminded of my treatment some 36 years ago on this holiday weekend but our politicians find it worthy to ignore what some have tried to recount to them, who have actually been there."

I got shot down over N Vietnam in 1967...a sq commander.

After I returned in 1973... I published 2 books that dealt a lot with "real torture" in Hanoi. Our make believe president is branding our country as a bunch of torturers when he has no idea what torture is.

As for me. Put thru a mock execution because I would not respond...pistol whipped on the head...same event... Couple of days later...hung by my feet all day. I escaped and got recaptured a couple of weeks later... I got shot and recaptured. Shot was OK...what happened after was not.

They marched me to Vinh... put me in the rope trick, trick. Almost pulled my arms out of the sockets. Beat me on the head with a little wooden rod until my eyes were swelled shut, and my unshot, unbroken hand a pulp.

Next day hung me by the arms...rebroke my right wrist...wiped out the nerves in my arms that control the hands. Rolled my fingers up into a ball. Only left the slightest movement of my L forefinger. So I started answering with some incredible lies.

Sent me to Hanoi strapped to a barrel of gas in the back of a truck.

Hanoi...on my knees. Rope trick again. Beaten by a big fool.

Into leg irons on a bed in Heartbreak Hotel.

Much kneeling--hands up at Zoo.

Really bad beating for refusing to condemn Lyndon Johnson.

Several more kneeling events. I could see my knee bone thru kneeling holes.

There was an escape from the annex to the Zoo. I was the Senior Officer of a large building because of escape. They started a mass torture of all commanders.

I think it was July 7, 1969...they started beating me with a car fan belt. In first 2 days I took over 300 strokes. Then stopped counting because I never thought I would live thru it.

They continued day-night torture to get me to confess to a non-existent part in the escape. This went on for at least 3 days. On my knees. Fan belting... cut open my scrotum with fan belt stroke. Opened up both knee holes again. My fanny looked like hamburger. I could not lie on my back.

They tortured me into admitting that I was in on the escape and that my 2 room-mates knew about it.

The next day I denied the lie.

They commenced torturing me again with 3- 6- or 9 strokes of the fan belt every day from about July 11 or 12rh...to 14 October 1969. I continued to refuse to lie about my roommates again.

Now, the point of this is that our make-believe president has declared to the world that we (U.S.) are a bunch of torturers... Thus it will be OK to torture us next time when they catch us....because that is what the U.S. does.

Our make-believe president is a know nothing fool who thinks that pouring a little water on some one's face, or hanging a pair of women's pants over an Arab's head is TORTURE. He is a meathead.

I just talked to MOH holder Leo Thorsness who was also in my sq in jail.... as was John McCain ... and we agree that McCain does not speak for the POW group when he claims that Al Gharib was torture... or that "water boarding" is torture.

Our president and those fools around him who keep bad mouthing our great country are a disgrace to the United States. Please pass this info on to Sean Hannity. He is free to use it to point out the stupidity of the claims that water boarding ...which has no after effect... is torture. If it got the Arab to cough up the story about how he planned the attack on the twin towers in NYC ... hurrah for the guy who poured the water.

I wondered how Obama received a low key and subdued military reception just a few weeks ago could somehow magically con the troops into wild enthusiam. Well here it is as reported on NewsBusters MacsMind.

MacsMind contends that the troop contingent was contrived, based on an e-mail he says he received "from a sergeant that was there." The corresponding sergeant also dropped a telltale clue (in bold below): We were pre-screened, asked by officials “Who voted for Obama?”, and then those who raised their hands were shuffled to the front of the receiving line. They even handed out digital cameras and asked them to hold them up.

Take a look at the picture at AP and notice all the cameras are the same models? Coincidence? I think not.

So it seems that the establishment press got played. It also appears that New Media made them look like the fools they are. And it looks like Team Obama is going to have to improve its stealth techniques the next time around.

It is encouraging that so many people came together today to express their views on government policies, size, and elitism. Of course most of the liberal media did not cover these peaceful demonstrations - what a contrast to most of the violent out of control protests by the radical pinheads.

There were demonstration in every state, actually there were over 2,000 gatherings across the country.

Chants like "Give me liberty, not debt" and "Our kids can't afford you" were heard across several U.S. cities Wednesday as anti-tax "tea party" protesters took to the streets to voice their opposition to big government spending.

Thousands of protesters -- some dressed in colonial wigs with tea bags hanging from their eyeglasses -- showed up in states from California to Kentucky to Massachusetts, holding signs and reading speeches lambasting the Obama administration's tax-and-spend policies.

Like King George, I have the feeling that Obama is not going to listen either; sadly convinced that his out of control policies are correct.

Well this is encouraging news. Some people are taking a stand for their morals and values.

Nearly 65,000 people have signed an online petition protesting President Obama's scheduled May 17 commencement address at the University of Notre Dame, saying the president's views on abortion and stem cell research "directly contradict" Roman Catholic teachings.

The petition, which had garnered 64,051 signatures as of midday Tuesday, asserts that thousands of other "accomplished leaders" in business, law or education would have been more appropriate selections.

"Instead Notre Dame has chosen prestige over principles, popularity over morality," the petition reads. "Whatever may be President Obama's admirable qualities, this honor comes on the heels of some of the most anti-life actions of any American president, including expanding federal funding for abortions and inviting taxpayer-funded research on stem cells from human embryos."

Now Notre Dame is not my favorite university, but I aplaude the people there for taking this stand. Hopefully, this will cancel Obama's commencement address.

A Utah woman listed in the Guinness Book of World Records for her long fingernails has lost them in a car crash. Lee Redmond of Salt Lake City sustained serious but non-life-threatening injuries in the accident Tuesday.

Lee Redmond's nails, which hadn't been cut since 1979, were broken in the crash. According to the Guinness Web site, her nails measured a total of more than 28 feet long in 2008, with the longest nail on her right thumb at 2 feet, 11 inches.

I have shared in a past post about the Arizona Cardinals Kurt Warner and his faith in Jesus Christ - which makes him the man he is. Now here is testimony from the the other team in the Super Bowl.

Although he's one of the top stars on the Pittsburgh Steelers defense, safety Troy Polamalu also voiced his faith during the Jan. 27 media day prior to the Super Bowl.

If the Steelers defeat the Arizona Cardinals, strong safety Troy Polamalu will have a stake in that achievement, yet he has a perspective that transcends any title game.

While he may be known as a silent killer for his soft voice and hard hits on Pittsburgh's top-rated defense, there was nothing quiet about Polamalu's witness for Jesus Christ during the annual media day prior to the Super Bowl.

"I feel like faith is the foundation of everything I do on the field and off," said Polamalu, a former USC star now in his sixth year in the NFL.

"It determines how you live your life when you love God."

What a testimony these men bring before the world for Jesus Christ. I only hope that people, especially young men, will see these players not only as their football hero's; but see that their faith makes them the real men they are.

During his football career, Aeneas Williams earned a reputation as a quiet leader who professed a deep Christian faith. Behind the eight Pro Bowl appearances and a Super Bowl loss was a man often sought out in the locker room to help put things in perspective.

Now, the 40-year-old Williams leads a small startup church that meets in rented space at a hotel in suburban St. Louis, where he weaves lessons from life and football into his sermons.

Williams — who is ordained but doesn't use the title "reverend" — played for the Arizona Cardinals and St. Louis Rams as a cornerback and safety before retiring in 2005. He and his wife, Tracy, started Spirit of the Lord Family Church in their home in 2007. Services moved last year to a ballroom at the Crowne Plaza Hotel in Clayton while the 70-member church seeks a permanent home.

"The hope is that each person who attends has a personal relationship with the Lord that's practical and that they're able to take that relationship and share it with someone else," Williams said.

Not exactly your backyard snowman. This is a creation that throws a challenge to anyone/community that thinks they have the corner on large scale snow creations.

The "snowwoman" towering over this village features eyelashes created from discarded skis and bright red lips made from painted car tires. She wears a giant red hat and a 100-foot-long scarf, and her blond tresses are made from rope. She gets a little bling from a snowflake pendant that's 6 feet long.

It took more than a month, dozens of volunteers and tons of snow to create Olympia . Jim Sysko, a civil engineer, oversaw design and construction.

To get an idea of scale, Olympia is about 30 feet shorter than the Statue of Liberty (without the base). Her arms consist of 27-foot-tall evergreens.

Her "carrot" nose, painted by schoolchildren, is 8 feet long. Her eyes are made from giant wreaths.

The truth is Americans are still willing to help out a neighbor even in tough times.

For example, in Seattle, Boeing employees tripled their donations this year to Northwest Harvest, an operator of Washington’s largest food bank.

The American Heart Association also indicates that donations are up this year and hopes this will hold true throughout the busy Christmas season.

Retailers Commit to Recognize Christmas

Last year, Focus on the Family helped Christmas shoppers across the U.S. by letting them know which major retailers were embracing the use of "Christmas" in their advertising.

In April, Focus on the Family sent certified letters to the CEOs and marketing executives of 33 leading retailers inviting them to share their plans to generously use the term ”Christmas” in their 2008 catalogs and Web publications. We also requested information about their policies regarding in-store use of the term “Merry Christmas.”

Eight of the 33 retailers replied with enthusiasm and stated their plans to generously use the term “Christmas.” In fact, a number of them intend to increase their use of “Christmas” this year.

The eight that plan to intentionally recognize Christmas are:

Lowe's
Nordstrom
Pier 1 Imports
Toys "R" Us
Wal-Mart

You can read into this what you want. It is CHRISTmas after all. And I prefer to keep CHRIST in CHRISTMAS. If these businesses choose to bow down to secular pressure and choose to make Christmas a winter holiday season they don't get my vote. Given the economy, shopping will be more restricted this year, sales down, etc. I know where my shopping will be focused.

We in the USA have not had to make these kinds of decisions yet regarding life or death for our faith, but who knows when they may come. However there are places where Christians today have to declare their faith and do face death. We need to pray for these brothers and sisters.
